Bucharest- Romania
We were pleasantly surprised by Bucharest, as were many other fellow travelers we met on our trip. This was not a country that we previously wished to visit, but definitely exceeded our expectations.
We had two full days in Bucharest, which is the most ideal for a short trip. The one day we spent around Bucharest center and the second day, a day trip outside Bucharest.
We stayed at the Hotel Razvan. This was about a 10 minute walk to the metro. Bolt was also cheap to the city center.
Tip: You need to beware of the taxi drivers directly outside the airport as they charge a high fare. I downloaded Uber before our trip, however when we arrived at the airport, it showed no drivers were available. In a bit of a panic, we approached a taxi driver in the front of the queue outside the arrival terminal and he said the fare was around 90 Euros, due to the heavy traffic at the time. Flabbergasted, I then proceeded to download Bolt and immediately found a driver, and at a good rate! We paid 92 Lei/around 20 Euros.
Day Trip
We booked a trip via Get Your Guide. This was a long day but the highlight of our trip. We had an amazing day. What we saw:
1) Bucharest: Dracula's Castle, Peles Castle, & Brasov Old Town. All three stops were great, my favourite was the Peles Castle and Brasov Town. Would definitely recommend this trip.
1) Dracula's /Bran Castle

2) Peles Castle
This is actually a palace. It was the summer residence of the royal family. The floor plan has over 160 rooms, many with dedicated themes or styles. (e.g Italian, Turkish, French, Indian).
Interesting Fact: it was the first European castle that was fully powered by electricity, provided by its own power plant.

3) BRASOV
Lovely city. Here we had time to walk around and also stopped for lunch. (our choice of restaurant in the center, which was one recommended by the tour guide) .

Day in Bucharest Center- what we saw/did
1) Romanain Athenaeum

2) National Village Museum '' Dimitrie Gusti"
Totally recommend this. It is an open air museum/village with many buildings/houses representing the history of Romania's rural architecture.
3) The Arch of Triumph
Close to the Dimitrie Gusti Museum
4) Macca-Vilacrosse Passage
5)Carturesti Carusel Bookstore
6) Bucharest by night
