Mykonos- Greece
A lot of people would say no to traveling somewhere just for half a day. Did we say "No"? Of course not! If you find a cheap ticket, it is so worth it.
There are about 200 islands in the Cyclades, with Mykonos being the most popular. Mykonos is known as the island of the Winds due to the strong winds that usually blow on the island. We experienced these strong winds firsthand. I don't think I have ever felt such strong winds before and the feeling of the sand in the winds hitting our limbs and faces. We wondered how the ladies on the island manage to have fine looking hairstyles!
Where we stayed: Elenitsas flat next to the Windmills
The location was perfect, right in the center of Mykonos. This location is necessary if you only have one day (or half a day - lol) to see the main sights of Mykonos.

Church of Panagia Paraportiani
This whitewashed church is made up of 5 joined churches. The four are on the ground level and the 5th was built above them. Its name means "Our lady of the Side Gate" in Greek.

What we saw:
The famous windmills of Mykonos
There were about 20 windmills in Mykonos, which were used for wheat production. Today, there are only 7 windmills.

Little Venice
This was inspired by Venetian architecture as it used to be under Venetian rule and was a significant part of the Venetian trade routes during the 13th Century. I loved Venice so this part of Mykonos was my favourite. Many houses in Little Venice have been turned into bars or bistros and restaurants.

Chora
Typical Cycladic Village in the center of Mykonos, behind little Venice. The narrow winding streets are filled with boutiques, art galleries, cafes and bars.
Interesting Fact: The three wells of Mykonos. A folklore story is that if a virgin drinks from all three wells, she will find a husband. Another story is that if a man drinks from the well he will marry a local woman. They were built in 1722 to provide Mykonos with water and were used until 1956.

Popular Instagrammable Place: Happiness store
This was so busy during the day that it was impossible to take a photo here. We woke up early the next day as we had about a couple of hours before the taxi arrived.

Agios Nikolaos - Kappele
A lovely church with an unusual red dome with restaurants around the area.

Metroplitan Church
Located right behind the promenade of Little Venice

Another Popular Instagrammable Place: I Love Mykonos Staircase

Viewpoint of Mykonos-
This overlooks Mykonos town with lovely views , which leads to another windmill- Boni's Windmill.
